About – Taste 'N' Dash

Welcome to Taste ‘N’ Dash!!  My name is Melissa and I am extremely lucky to call San Francisco home.  I should start off by saying I love all things Food… cooking, recipe development, entertaining, dining out and of course Eating.  My interest in food started early on which led me to major in Nutrition and Food Science but that was after I had already completed three years in the US Navy.  After graduation I still had a few years left in the Navy which meant I was unable to pursue a food career at that time.  And to be honest, I had not really thought about a food career but chose the major because it was an interesting subject and I was able to utilize the information on a personal level.

I joined the US Navy a year after high school and was very fortunate to have been stationed in some really amazing cities… Yokosuka, Japan, San Diego, CA and London, UK.  During my time in San Diego I attended San Diego State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition and Food Science.  After graduation I was off to London to finish my remaining time in the Navy.

Living in London was one of the best experiences I could imagine.  In fact, after my contract was up I decided to extend my stay for one more year to travel and attend the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School where I completed the Patisserie program.  With my interest in food and needing to find a new career now that my time in the Navy ended I figured culinary school seemed like a great idea and off I went.

When I returned home to San Francisco my plan was to find a food related job now that I had this extensive food background minus the experience but life happens and with a blink of an eye I was working for a retail company at their corporate office.  Fast forward ten plus years and well… here we are.   Taste N Dash was born.

Food will play a huge role on this blog as I venture out to find my niche in the food world, share and develop recipes, entertainment ideas, and dine my way through San Francisco.

If you would like to know more about me please feel free to contact me.  I would love to hear from you.
