Holiday Fun! Union Square, Santa, Farmer Brown, Cocktails, etc… – Taste 'N' Dash

Happy Holidays!!  Christmas is almost here.  I’m am still in disbelief… where did 2014 go?!?!?

This past weekend really got me in the holiday spirit as I spent most of my time in Union Square.  I visited Santa Claus at Macy’s, walked around Union Square in the craziness of holiday shoppers, and lunch with my girls at Farmer Brown.

I wanted to soak up the holiday festivities in San Francisco as much as I can because this year I will be spending Christmas and New Year’s in Las Vegas.

Check out the Christmas tree and ice skating rink in the heart of Union Square.  It was so much fun to people watch.  There were so many people out soaking in the festivities.

The ice skating rink will be up until January 19th and hours of operation is daily.  If you have yet to make the trip to Union Square I highly recommend it before the end of the year.

Don’t forget to jump on a cable car for a quick ride.

Lunch with my girls D, Lindsay and Mariah followed a few days later at Farmer Brown in the Union Square area.

We started with cocktails…of course. 😉

The pinkish cocktail “beneath the pom tree” consisted of gin, pomegranate juice, aperol, rosemary, lemon, pomegranate honey and pavan muscat liqueur.  It was tasty and not too sweet.

Farmer Brown serves soul food with a twist and all their ingredients are fresh and local.  They are known for their all you can eat buffet brunch and bottomless mimosas.  Some of the items included in the buffet are their famous fried chicken, cornmeal catfish, mushroom gravy, sausage gravy, biscuits, waffles, cheesy grits, cajun potatoes, succotash veggies, etc…

The girls and I opted for the ala carte items. Three of us had the bacon skillet with eggs, potatoes and a biscuit and Mariah chose the biscuits and gravy.  We also shared a side of sausage and gravy.  Yummy!!  Also on the ala carte menu were french toast, chicken and waffles and a burger.

If you decide to go for dinner you can get an array of things such as gumbo, ribs, catfish, jambalaya, etc….

There was also a live band playing jazz and funk music.  Very upbeat!

Overall a fun experience.  The atmosphere was laid back and super casual.

After lunch we decided to head over to the center of Union Square.

Holy moly the streets were crowded.  Beyond craziness.

So many people trying to get a glimpse of the tree.

The girls in some serious convo…. I wonder if they knew I was snapping away.

We tried to get a pic of all of us in front of the tree… big fail.  We asked a lady next to us to take the picture and even though Lindsay set it up on the angle and distance not one of them came out.  Blurry, not centered and in each of the pics one of our eyes were closed. womp womp

Next stop was the Westin St. Francis hotel to see the Christmas tree and sugar tree in their lobby.  It is across from the square.

How cool is this?  A 12-feet-tall tree made out of pulled and blown sugar only.

A wall full of poinsettias are also in the lobby at the Westin St. Francis.

We ended our afternoon with one more cocktail at the Daily Grill and our friend Heather joined us.

Now after visiting Union Square and you’re still wanting more of the holiday madness…

Head over to the Fairmont Hotel just a few blocks away to get a viewing of their tree and gingerbread house.  It is quite the presentation.  I am assuming this will be up until the end of the year.

Cheers!
