The Perfect Holiday Drink – Taste 'N' Dash

Ever since December came around I have been thinking about the perfect holiday drink to create but nothing comes to mind.  I continue to bounce off ideas with bourbon or whisky since both have a smokey woody flavor which reminds me of the winter plus I’ve been watching way too much Mad Men on Netflix.

Even though bourbon and whisky are the perfect choice for a holiday cocktail I decided to go in a totally different direction. Prosecco!!  Hmmmm… a dry crisp sparkling white wine??  How does that relate to the holidays??  Let me show you…This is a perfect drink before dinner to wet the palate and get the tastebuds flowing.

The prosecco is combined with a cinnamon, anise and vanilla simple syrup concoction.  To me this combo just screams the holidays.  Since prosecco is dry and not very sweet adding the infused simple syrup just kicks it up a notch.

First we need to make the simple syrup.  Ingredients needed are sugar, water, vanilla pod, star anise and cinnamon sticks.

Place all the ingredients into a saucepan on high heat, stir to dissolve the sugar and bring to a boil.  Reduce to medium heat and continue to boil for five minutes.

Remove from heat and let sit for 30 minutes.

Strain the syrup into a jar or bowl.  You can use right away or cover and place into the fridge until ready to use.

I picked up the bottle of prosecco at Trader Joe’s for a reasonable price.

Huge fan of pomegranates!  Sour and sweet!!  You can add to almost any side dish or drink for that final touch.  Just check out that color.

Grab some champagne flutes, add 1 tablespoon of the infused simple syrup and pour the prosecco slowly to the top.  Stir and drop in a few pomegranates.

Don’t be alarmed by the black substance floating around… just the seeds from the vanilla pod.

And there you have it… a perfect drink for your next party.  Simple and refreshing!

I may have also added this simple syrup to a vodka and soda water cocktail recently.  Just saying… 😉

 Enjoy!
